Shisa Kanko
Shisa kanko, or pointing and calling, might look silly, but this safety system used on all Japanese public transport has been proven to greatly reduce workplace errors. If you ever take a bus or train in Japan, you will notice incessant pointing by all the people involved in getting commuters to their destinations. Bus drivers, train drivers, conductors, and platform workers all point and call with various degrees of energy and commitment.
When shooting this series, I was most attracted by the well-dressed, white-gloved train conductors who sit neatly framed within the little windows of the last car. They're captured here in various stages of their craft - pointing, pre-pointing, or post-pointing.
