Hoi-An Fish Market
Hoi-An is a popular tourist destination. The ancient merchant town with its well-preserved old buildings and a decent beach is a worthwhile stop when visiting Vietnam. However, it's not particularly high on authenticity (whatever that is) as tourism has turned it into Vietnam's tailor and leather goods capital with touts forever asking if you want this or that suit, skirt, shirt, shoes, or leather bag, or whatever.
There's one place in town though where tourists are largely ignored, pushed out of the way, and life goes on without them, though the produce sold there most likely does end up on their table. The central Hoi-An market with its morning fish offerings is a must for conical hat lovers and fans of other oval shapes filled with dead sea creatures.
